service until tuesday. ballston's logan remains open as well as philadelphia but both have limited runways and flights in and out. it forced the nfl to postpone the game between the philadelphia eagles and the minnesota vikings until tuesday night. winds caused white out conditions and knocked out power to tens of thousands from the carolinas to maine. crews worked to restore power and clear runways and restore growth to get the east coast back to normal and head of new year's weekend. >> an update to that story. officials say all three of new york that the airports are expected to open later today. hundreds of frustrated after their flight to, well, know where -- nearly 200 people boarded a plane in charlotte hoping to land in the big apple but conditions diverted the airplane to harrisburg. passengers thought they would get on a bus and continue but after circling for an hour and then sitting on the tarmac for even longer, passengers were flown back to charlotte, right where they started. >> out thought we were going to be on the bus and then, never mind, we have to fly you back

weather even postponed the philadelphia eagles sunday night football game against the vikings. philly mayor declared a snow emergency there amid the heavy snow and the strong winds, the dangerous driving conditions for fans. more than 400 salt trucks on the road there. the city declared what's called a code blue weather emergency. that gets philadelphia's off the streets and into shelters. >> here in maryland, it is operation fearful dusting. maryland national guard troops were deployed to the eastern shore trying to help local fire departments in the middle of this snowstorm. >> that area was one of the hardest hit in that region. the troops helped maryland state troopers make their patrols as winter weather descended on the area. >> last winter was a little bit more severe than right now. but if the wind picks up, we'll get the same conditions even though we don't have the depth that we have. >> national guard troops patrolled the eastern shore in humvees during operation fearful dusting. that area is still under a blizzard warning until 5:00 a.m. a total of 10 to 15 inches of snow
